Job Overview

The Borough of Spring Grove is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Public Works Employee to join our team. This role involves maintaining and repairing critical borough infrastructure, including roads, parks, public buildings, and utility systems. The ideal candidate will be reliable, able to work independently and as part of a team, and committed to ensuring the borough’s public spaces and facilities remain safe, clean, and functional.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on borough streets, sidewalks, storm drains, and public facilities.
  • Operate light and heavy equipment such as snowplows, tractors, dump trucks, and mowers.
  • Assist with maintaining and repairing water and sewer lines and other utility systems.
  • Maintain borough parks, playgrounds, and recreational facilities through lawn care, tree trimming, and litter removal.
  • Help with snow removal, salting roads, and other emergency response tasks.
  • Conduct minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs in borough buildings.
  • Perform routine inspections and minor repairs on borough vehicles and equipment.
  • Participate in setting up and taking down borough events and seasonal displays.
  • Assist with daily testing at the Borough Sewer Plant.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
  • Experience in construction, maintenance, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to safely operate a variety of power tools and equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and construction techniques.
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting heavy objects, working in adverse weather, and standing for extended periods.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively within a team and with borough residents.

Work Environment

  • Primarily outdoor work with exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Must be available for emergency work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, particularly during snow removal and storm response.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, climb, and stand for long periods.
  • Physical stamina to handle long shifts and emergency situations.
